Training Needs Analysis

The first step in designing a Training and Development programme is to conduct a needs assessment. The assessment begins with a "need" which can be identified in several ways but is generally described as a gap between what is currently in place and what is needed, now and in the future.

Training Needs Analysis (TNA) is a process which often covers:

  • Review of current trainings being undertaken
  • Analysis of a task of a new or modified system
  • Identification of a gap in training
  • List of training requirements
  • Assessment of various training options
